BAY COUNTY LONG TERM RECOVERY PLAN
One of our most significant roles in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael was in Bay County. We were chosen by Bay County to coordinate with the Bay County Long-term Recovery Task Force, the development of the Bay County Long-term Recovery Plan. In full compliance with the FEMA National Disaster Recovery Framework (NDRF) our team worked with six major branches—Health & Social Services (including schools), Infrastructure, Economic Development, Housing, Natural & Cultural Resources and Planning & Capacity.
NEED
After the devastating impact of Category 5 Hurricane Michael, Bay County Florida asked The Integrity Group to spearhead the long term recovery efforts. The community had suffered a tremendous loss of housing, infrastructure, educational facilities, health care facilities and tourism.
SOLUTION
In conjunction with County leadership and using the blueprint published by FEMA, we developed seven branch teams. These branches helped facilitate public trainings and discourse in the communities effected by Hurricane Michael to garner public input on the best ways to successfully and sustainably recover from this disaster. The project included the participation of more than eight hundred residents, business leaders, and other stakeholders who participated in 250 public meetings, special research sessions, and open discussions. Additionally, many hundreds of residents participated via a special recovery website and social media. This successful project certainly provided our team a close view of the major challenges and potential solutions for an effective recovery. From this input, The Integrity Group developed a first of it’s kind Long Term Recovery Plan that laid out a path forward for Bay County to not just recover, but to rebuild the community better than before.
RESULTS
This project became a “model” Long-term Recovery Plan that resulted in numerous accolades from Federal and State agencies. And, more importantly, this effort resulted in total funding into Bay County (including private investment) totaling nearly $2 billion.
